Better Beamer

Better Beamer

I consider the Better Beamer developed by Walt Anderson to be the best flash extender on the market. It allows you to shoot at greater distances and smaller apertures than the flashgun alone would. It simply focuses the light from the flashgun into a narrower beam so that it reaches further, increasing the flash output by about 2 2/3 stops.

For more information about how flash extenders work go to our flash extender page. It costs less than $40 and does its job extremely well. What I like most about it is that its very light and easy to carry. It weighs just 2.5 ounces and easily fits in your pocket when disassembled.

It consists of two brackets which are placed either side of the flashgun and held in place by a Velcro strap. A Fresnel lens is then attached to the brackets by Velcro. It takes less than a minute to assemble and put into position on the flashgun.

For me this gives it a considerable advantage over others. If I couldn’t easily pack it into my kit bag then I’d be unlikely to use it very much.
